Brendan Ralfs for Saanich Council
Governing with Integrity, Fairness, Respect & Transparency
I will approach municipal government with integrity, fairness, respect and transparency.
Residents should be able to trust that Council decisions are made honestly, based on evidence and focused on the public interest, not personal advantage, political pressure or the demands of the loudest voices.
Integrity
I will be accountable for my decisions and actions, and be willing to justify them to Saanich residents.
I will be truthful about what municipal government can deliver, disclosing conflicts of interest and applying the same ethical standards in public and private.
I will acknowledge uncertainty and avoid promising outcomes before the facts are known. When circumstances change or evidence shows that a decision is not working, I will be prepared to reconsider it.
Fairness
Council should apply rules consistently while recognizing that different circumstances may require different responses. Decisions should consider who receives the benefits, who bears the costs and whether anyone is being overlooked.
Public resources should be allocated according to clear priorities, demonstrated need and measurable community benefit.
Respect
Saanich residents hold different experiences, priorities and political views. Respectful government does not require agreement or uniformity, but it does require listening carefully, debating ideas rather than attacking people and treating everyone with dignity.
Public consultation should occur early enough to influence decisions. Council should report what it heard and explain how public input affected the outcome.
Transparency
Residents deserve understandable information about costs, risks, alternatives and results. Important decisions should be made openly, with clear reasons recorded for the public.
I will support meaningful performance reporting and follow-up after Council acts. Mistakes should be acknowledged and corrected rather than concealed or defended automatically.
Good government depends not only on what Council decides, but on how those decisions are made and the actions taken to execute them. I will strive to earn and maintain public trust by adhering to core governing values throughout all my work on Council.
